Arrowfield Stud

25th Group 1 winner for Redoute's Choice

John & Trish Muir's Milburn Creek Thoroughbred Stud added a new Group 1 winner to their record and that of champion sire Redoute's Choice when Hampton Court stormed past his rivals at the end of the record-setting $400,000 ATC Spring Champion S. G1 over 2000 metres at Randwick.

The scorching early pace and the final course record time of 2:00.30 was largely the work of the other Redoute's Choice colt in the race, Panzer Division, sent to the front by jockey Tye Angland and asked to cover the first 1400 metres in 1:22.9. Trainer Paul Messara advised after the race that he would be aimed at shorter distances next preparation.

However, all the plaudits were justly earned by Hampton Court, who came from the tail of the field to break Dignity Dancer's 16 year-old record and drove through the line so strongly ahead of favourite First Seal and Sweynesse that trainer Gai Waterhouse immediately confirmed his trip to Melbourne for the Victoria Derby G1. He is now the $5 TAB fixed odds favourite for the $1.5 million Flemington classic.

Jockey Josh Parr said of the colt's finish at Randwick, "His turn of foot when he got balanced up and let rip was incredible."

Hampton Court is the first foal of Canadian stakeswinner Roses 'N' Wine (by Broken Vow), from the family of champion Makybe Diva and Group 2 winner Musket (also by Redoute's Choice).

Purchased for $500,000 by John Warren Bloodstock from the Milburn Creek draft at the 2013 Inglis Easter Sale, he is raced by a group of owners that includes the Muirs, James Packer and Sydney broadcaster Alan Jones.

Hampton Court won his third start as a 2YO, ran fourth in Bachman's Schweppervescence H. G3 and progressed steadily to his first black type success in last weekend's ATC Dulcify Quality H. LR. His record now reads three wins and more than $360,000 from 9 starts.

Hampton Court is the fourth Group 1 winner bred by Milburn Creek, after Redoute's Dancer (also by Redoute's Choice), Sizzling (by Snitzel) and Once Were Wild (by Johannesburg). The Muirs also enjoyed Group 1 success as owners of the grand mare Secret Admirer (2010 ATC Flight S. G1 & 2011 ATC Epsom H. G1).

Roses 'N' Wine has a yearling colt by Snitzel and is foaling again to him this Spring.

A week after he became the 119th stakeswinner for Redoute's Choice, Hampton Court is the 25th Group 1 winner for the three-time champion sire, whose current season earnings now stand at $2.1 million.

[TDN] The Champ Is Back!

7th at MOV G1 Manikato S. (A$1m) [1200m (T)] Winner: Lankan Rupee (Aus), g, 5 by Redoute's Choice (Aus)

RUPEE BACK ON THE MONEY IN MANIKATO
An autumn Group 1 hat trick--culminating in a scintillating victory over heavy going in the A$2.5 million T.J. Smith S. at The Championships at Royal Randwick Apr. 12--had earned Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}) the distinction of the world’s highest-rated sprinter on the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings scale, but a pair of seconds at Moonee Valley this season did not look good on paper, despite the laments of jockey Craig Newitt that the track’s quirky configuration wasn’t to the 5-year-old’s liking. Lankan Rupee put those losses behind him yesterday, however, surviving a pair of inquiries to firmly reverse his Moonee Valley fortunes. Hustled from the barriers by Newitt to deny his G1 Moir S. conqueror Buffering (Aus) (Mossman {Aus}) an early lead, Lankan Rupee blitzed through the opening stages until he was able to cross over and settle on the fence. Swinging into the short straight with Buffering breathing down his neck three-quarters of a length behind, Lankan Rupee held that advantage passing the 50 meter mark, but was soon swarmed by a cavalry charge of closing rivals. Angelic Light (Aus) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) got up late to be second with Famous Seamus (NZ) (Elusive City) checking in third. Only a long neck separated the first eight horses home, with the field covered by about two lengths in total. Newitt’s initial celebrations were short lived, however, with protests lodged into his move towards the rail at the 150 meter mark lasting about 45 minutes. After at last being declared the official winner, Newitt told Racenet.com.au, "No horse in this country could’ve done what he did out there tonight. He flew early, led Buffering and kept going. I’ve never been so proud of this horse, he had to dig deep into his guts to win that.”

Lankan Rupee showed no signs of being a stable star his first season on the track, winning two of eights starts but failing to factor at the black-type level. His connections clearly thought of enough of him to contest that season’s G1 Coolmore Stud S.--where he finished eighth, beaten 5 1/2 lengths--and his fortunes reversed dramatically after he was gelded for his 4-year-old campaign. The new Lankan Rupee debuted with a benchmark win over this course last Oct. 4, and one year ago the date finished third under similar conditions. He truly came alive, however, when switched to the Flemington straight next out, earning his first black-type victory in the Listed Earl Grey S., a win that kicked off a six-race win streak. Next came the G3 Kevin Heffernan S. at Caulfield Nov. 16, and after a short break, Lankan Rupee returned to annex the G2 Rubiton S. by nearly four lengths back at that Melbourne course Feb. 8. Group 1 success followed two weeks later in the Oakleigh Plate, followed by the G1 Newmarket H. after another two-week breather. By that point Lankan Rupee had solidified himself as the best speedster in the land--a position largely vacated since the retirement of Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}) last year, and he firmly established himself as the best in the world in that category after slamming the opposition in the T.J. Smith, the race that had been Black Caviar’s swansong 12 months earlier. A shock turnover in the G2 McEwan S. marked Lankan Rupee’s return to the races as a 5-year-old, and after allowing Buffering to lead in the Moir, he found himself again second best after just failing to nail that rival on the wire. Trainer Mick Price confirmed after last night’s victory that Lankan Rupee would next appear down the Flemington straight in the G1 Darley Classic Nov. 8
"He was gutsy tonight and my heart was pumping,” Price told Racenet.com.au. "The Darley Classic is next and I can’t wait for Flemington.”
Lankan Rupee’s third dam, My Tricia (NZ) (Hermes {GB}) produced G1 Caulfield Guineas and G1 Victoria Derby winner and sire Grosvenor (NZ) (Sir Tristram {GB}).
